About these terms

These terms apply to the Chromatics app and to the website chromatics.mobile. By using Chromatics, you agree to these terms.

Who we are

Chromatics is an independent reading app operated from Ohio, United States. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean Chromatics. You can contact us at hello@chromatics.mobile.

The service

Chromatics is an app for reading public-domain books on iPhone and iPad. It shows each character’s dialogue in its own color, shows a banner with the current scene, plays audiobooks that read along with the text, and includes a commonplace book for saving lines. Features may change. We may remove a feature or a title. If a removal is significant, we will note it on the website.

Your account

You can sign in with an email code or with Sign in with Apple. Do not share access to your account. You are responsible for activity under your account. Each person may have one account. You must be old enough to have an Apple ID in your country or region.

Acceptable use

Use Chromatics for reading. Do not attempt to disrupt the service, get around the paywall, access another user’s data, or overload our servers. Do not use automated access, scraping, or bulk downloading on the texts, the audio, our editions, or the website.

Content and ownership

The texts are in the public domain and come from Project Gutenberg. The audio recordings are in the public domain and come from LibriVox volunteers. Both are free for anyone to use, in Chromatics or elsewhere.

Our editions are our own work. This includes the prepared text, the speaker color palettes, the scene banners, the audio alignment, the artwork, and the website. They are licensed to you for personal, non-commercial reading. They may not be copied or redistributed.

Your kept lines and notes belong to you. We store them in order to show them to you and to export them where you request. You can export them at any time.

Subscriptions and purchases

Chromatics Pro subscriptions and the Founding Reader purchase, a one-time purchase of lifetime access, are sold by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles billing, cancellations, and refunds. Your use of the iOS app is governed by Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement. Where these terms and that agreement differ, that agreement takes precedence for the app.

A subscription renews automatically until you cancel it in your Apple ID settings. You must cancel at least one day before the renewal date. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription. Prices may change. Apple will notify you before a subscription renews at a new price.

No warranty

Chromatics is provided “as is.” Public-domain texts may contain transcription errors, a dialogue color may occasionally be assigned to the wrong speaker, and audio alignment may drift. We do not guarantee that the service will always be available or free of errors. To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties, including warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Chromatics, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for Chromatics in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations; in those jurisdictions, they apply to the extent permitted by law.

Termination

You may stop using Chromatics at any time. You can delete your account in the app under Settings → Account, or by emailing us. We may suspend or close an account that violates these terms. We will tell you the reason unless the law prevents us from doing so. The sections on content and ownership, no warranty, limitation of liability, and governing law continue to apply after your account ends.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, we will update this page and the date below. If a change is significant, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Last updated October 7, 2026.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by contacting us will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Ohio, and you agree to the jurisdiction of those courts.
